A job working with livestock in the great outdoors

An opportunity arises for an assistant stock person at Oakwood Farms based near Ramsey . We have a large outdoor herd of pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle and a small flock of sheep lambing and calving out doors.

The role will involve feeding using a JCB telehandler and providing water on a daily basis to the animals , assisting with moving stock to new locations both on foot and using a trailer , putting up and taking down electric fencing. It will also include assisting the head stockman with routine handling , vaccinations , weighing and emergency care for sick animals

The role is completely outdoors and you will need to love the British weather ! You will need to be physically fit to enable you to put up mobile handling systems , check cattle often on foot and other duties

You will need to have a driving licence for tractors as a minimum but ideally a full driving licence either now or very soon because the stock is spread out over a wide area . Weekend work on a rota basis is part of the role

You need not have previous livestock or farm machinery operation experience as full training will be given to the right person but you must clearly demonstrate a hard work ethic , a love for the care of animals and of the great outdoors. We would ideally like you to follow the Modern Apprenticeship path to a nationally recognised qualification
